Vegetable gardening is not only a fun activity that you can enjoy with your family but it can be good for your health too. It is a great way to spend some time outdoors, and imagine the good all those extra vitamins and minerals are doing to your body when you are eating those delicious vegetables. However, just like most other things in life, if you want to grow and nurture a healthy vegetable garden then it is going to need looking after.

A vegetable garden needs plenty of water an nutrients so that your seeds can grow into healthy ripe vegetables. Take into consideration your climate. If you have lots of rainfall then be careful not to over do it with the watering. Similarly if you live somewhere hot, then your vegetable garden will need more water than average.

You might also want to feed your vegetable garden often with fresh compost. Compost contains nutrients that the normal soil doesn’t. You can start your own compost heap in the back of your yard by using items such as dry leaves, earth, and rotten vegetable peelings. Alternatively you can purchase compost out of the bag from your local gardening store.

Make sure you tend to your vegetable garden often by removing any unwanted weeds. Weeds can sap the energy out of your growing vegetables by taking all the water and nutrients away from them. Don’t allow weeds to grow and establish themselves as they can easily get out of control. When removing weeds from your vegetable garden be careful not to disturb the roots of your vegetables.

As well as water your vegetable garden will need lots of natural light. So in order to keep your growing vegetables healthy you will need to have then situated in a place that gets a lot of sunshine. Another tip is to grow your vegetables close to your kitchen, so that when you want to pick something when it is ripe you won’t have to walk very far.
